Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 8

There seems to be a charge for the finish line with trainers keen to get their two year-olds out to the races before the end of the season with nine heats at the Randwick trials on Tuesday morning won by juveniles and four of those winners sired by I Am Invincible.

Winners for I Am Invincible were Construct, Typhoon Tavi, King of Sparta and unraced colt I Am Lethal, whose trainer John O’Shea had a lot to do with his dam Steps in Time, winner of the 2014 Group I ATC Coolmore Classic.

Steps in Time won over $1million in prizemoney - image Steve Hart.

O’Shea trained the daughter of Danehill Dancer (IRE) from the start of her career, but had to hand her up to rival trainer Joe Pride when he accepted the job of Darley head trainer at the end of 2013.

Pride reaped the benefit of years of hard work from O'Shea and his team when Steps in Time duly won her first and only Group I race at her second start for her new trainer.

Fast forward to the Magic Millions 2020 and O’Shea Racing was the buyer for Steps in Time’s I Am Invincible colt that made $250,000 for Kitchwin Hills and he now races in her colours.

I Am Lethal as a yearling.

Given plenty of time, he won his first trial at Gosford last month and followed up with another strong finishing win in his 1045m heat this morning under Brenton Avdulla.

A laid back customer, he still looks a little green, but he’s definitely got something.

Steps in Time has had three runners for two Hong Kong winners, but I Am Lethal is the result of her first mating to I Am Invincible.
