First Winner for Highland Reel

Tara Madgwick - Thursday June 3

Galileo’s champion son Highland Reel (IRE) has been a popular shuttler to Swettenham Stud in Victoria for the past three season covering over 400 mares and he posted his first Northern Hemisphere winner overnight in the UK with Highland Premiere saluting.

Fourth and third at his first two starts, the Mark Johnston trained colt was a short priced favourite for the six furlong juvenile novice and was tenacious to the line to win by a neck.

Highland Premiere is the third winner for stakes-winner Forthefirsttime, a half-sister by Dr Fong to stakes-winner Pyman’s Theory.

The first crop of Australian bred Highland Reel yearlings have been selling here this year with eight averaging $90,000 at Inglis Premier. His progeny have sold for up to $180,000 with his top sellers listed below.
