$340,000 Capitalist Filly Tops MM National Yearlings Day 2

Media Release - Wednesday June 2

The third last lot in the ring, a filly bred and offered for sale by Melbourne Cup winning jockey Scott Seamer, proved the day's top seller on Day Two at the 2021 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast late this afternoon.

Local trainer Kacy Fogden went to $340,000 to secure the headline lot of the day, the Capitalist filly from Kimigayo who was presented as Lot 1828.

The filly was the pride and joy of her breeder, former superstar jockey Scott Seamer, a winner of numerous Group One races including a famous Caulfield and Melbourne Cup double aboard Ethereal.

A chestnut daughter of the former Magic Millions 2YO Classic and Golden Slipper winner Capitalist, the day's topper is the second foal of the unraced Show a Heart mare Kimigayo.
$340,000 Capitalist filly f rom Kimigayo.

Kimigayo is a half sister to the stakes performer Gold Anthem (dam of Starspangledbanner, grandam of Amicus) and is from National Song, a half sister to Circles of Gold, the Oaks winning dam of Elvstroem and Haradasun.

Fogden, who had to battle it out with a string of underbidders around the complex, was delighted to secure her number one pick of the sale.

"I waited all day for this filly," Fogden said. "We had to pay every bit for her I thought, but she was well worth it."

"It's a gun family and such a great physical, two-year-old type. She was an absolute queen."

"I bought the horse off Scotty Seamer, so who knows, he might be able to come out and ride her for us one day. He's an absolute legend, so it was nice to buy her (off him)."

"We'll syndicate her and she will race in the pink Blue Sky colours," she added.

Earlier, Suman Hedge paid $300,000 for the More Than Ready filly from Allez Wonder from the draft of Vinery Stud.

The filly is a full sister to group winning juvenile Kooweerup and the group placed Prompt Prodigy. Dam Allez Wonder won a Toorak Handicap.

As well as being the sire of the day's most expensive filly, Capitalist supplied the top selling colt, the youngster from Anabaa's Legacy who sold for $260,000 to Tony Fung Investments.

A member of the Lustre Lodge draft, the chestnut colt is a half brother to the exciting Queensland based galloper Wolf Moon and is from a group performed daughter of Anabaa.

The Book One sale gross sits at over $14.5 million with an average price of $59,075 for 247 lots sold at an improving clearance rate of over 65 per cent.

"I thought today had a little bit more momentum to it than what yesterday had and the vendors who were willing to meet the market were achieving results and getting their horses sold," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

"Obviously, this year we've sold a lot of yearlings all over Australia and probably more than ever before, so at some stage, given that our (international and Victorian) borders are shut, the market was going to become a little bit more selective and that's been apparent over the past two days."

"This is not a sale where we ever hit it out of the park from a clearance rate perspective but to have the highest gross for this sale since 2017, a very healthy average and clearly the horses that were well sought after, in most cases, exceeded the vendors' expectations."

Day Three of the National Yearling Sale, comprising Book Two youngsters will commence at 10am (Qld time) tomorrow and will be followed by the National Racehorse Sale, featuring a select draft from Godolphin. To view the racehorse catalogue click here.
