Widden Stud Victoria Launch Pre-Training and Spelling Facility

Media Release - Monday May 31

Widden Stud Victoria, in collaboration with renowned horseman Matt Upton, are delighted to introduce our complete pre-training and spelling facility, available to both home and offsite clients.

Matt Upton will head up the Widden Stud Victoria pre-training and spelling facility.

With years of experience in harnessing the best results from young thoroughbreds, Matt’s resume comprises a formidable list of patrons, including Peter Sidwell of Sutton Grange, Robbie Laing, Andrew Noblet, David Moodie’s Yungaburra and most recently, a decade at Woodside Park. Expertise of this nature is a rare find, and there’s no doubt that Matt will make a meaningful contribution to the success of Widden Victoria’s pre-training division.

Located just 50km from Flemington (an easy 45 minute float ride), interested parties will be able to avail themselves of the modern facilities at Widden Victoria, including a high speed treadmill, water walker, 1600m sand track and starting gates, convenient for trainers from the surrounding area.

The resources on offer will cater for both breaking and spelling, the lush pasture and spacious, tree-lined paddocks the ideal location to freshen up or recuperate horses that are in need of time, as well as educating those embarking on their racing careers.

Matt’s philosophy is based on his understanding of the fundamentals of starting young horses, taking both mental and physical soundness into consideration before they commence racing full time. Schooling and conditioning form the foundation of producing confident, well-balanced racehorses who train on to become champions, and Widden Victoria will provide the perfect nursery from which to build this.
