The Most Improved Sprinter in the Country

Mark Smith - Saturday September 16

Redzel continued his march to the top of the sprinters ranks with another thoroughly professional performance, setting a new track record in Saturday's Group II The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained son of Snitzel began last season as a Group III level sprinter but at seasons end he had claimed the Group I Doomben 10,000.

The Triple Crown colour bearer now stands on the verge of another milestone in the worlds most valuable sprint on turf courtesy of Everest slot holder James Harron.

Ridden by Hugh Bowman, Redzel stalked the speed set by Ball Of Muscle before drawing clear in the closing stages to defeat Ball Of Muscle by one and a quarter lengths while stopping the clock at a track record 1:01.83. "He's the most improved sprinter in the country," Bowman said.

In my opinion, he is a genuine Everest hopeful.

' There's no chinks in his armour. They have worked out exactly how he likes to race. He can set a pace and sustain a fight.

Redzel has another fan in Peter Snowden.

"He has come a long way this bloke. He has learned how to race properly. He is very, very genuine," Peter Snowden said.

"He never makes a mistake. He races on pace, on wet tracks, dry tracks, carries weight well, he's just the real deal now."

With his seventh stakes win the 5yo son of Snitzel advances his record to 9 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third from 19 starts with earnings of $1,395,250.

A $120,000 purchase by Triple Crown Syndications from the draft of Marquee Stud at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale, Redzel is the tenth living foal and second stakes-winner, after the Group III winner Danerich, for the former top-class Rubiton mare Millrich.

Winner of the Group III Sweet Embrace Stakes, Millrich was placed in the Group 1 Golden Slipper, Group II Silver Shadow Stakes, Group II Magic Night Stakes and Group II San Domenico Stakes.

A sister to the dam of the talented El Roca (Fastnet Rock) Millrich died three weeks after foaling Redzel.
