A big strong filly that stood out in the mounting yard, Design Artist was a well backed favourite and did not disappoint.

She raced up on the pace for Ben Allen from gate one and had enough left at the finish to win the 1200m open fillies event by a neck.

Retained to race by her breeder, Design Artist is the first winner from Year of the Dragon, a winning Pendragon grand-daughter of Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Inaflury.

Former Emirates Park stalwart Al Maher has been in Victoria in recent years standing at Stockwell Thoroughbreds and covered 30 mares last spring at a fee of $8,800.
