Starspangled Stakes Success

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 16

Rosemont Stud’s Starspangledbanner has had a productive weekend with new Group winners in two hemispheres – Brooklyn Hustle and Hermana Estrella – , while his Group I winning son The Wow Signal is now a Group I sire after his daughter Coeursamba won the Group I Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (1600m) at Longchamp.

Brooklyn Hustle (read about her here) was not the only Group winner on the weekend for Starspangledbanner with exciting two year-old filly Hermana Estrella making an auspicious debut by winning the Group III Naas Fillies Sprint (6f).

Trained by Fozzy Stack and ridden by Chris Hayes, Hermana Estrella scored a stylish length win despite being he outsider in a field of seven.

“She’s a very smart filly and Fozzy doesn’t make entries like that unless they are good,” said winning rider Chris Hayes, who was understandably impressed with the filly.

“She was green and raw as you would expect going against experienced company, but to me I was coasting and everything was going in slow motion.”

Bought for 42,000 euros by De Burgh Equine and her trainer at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, Hermana Estrella is the first winner for The Last Sister, a half-sister by Lord Shanakill to Group III winner Lady Springbank, who is by Starspangledbanner’s sire Choisir.

Starspangledbanner sired two new Group winners on the weekend.

Hermana Estrella is the 18th stakes-winner for Starspangledbanner, who stands at a fee of $16,500 this spring.
