Regan Bayliss catches feature race double at Flemington

Catchy gave Regan Bayliss a race-to-race double when winning the Group II Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington when Damian Lane was lucky to escape serious injury in a fall near the finish.

Regan Bayliss allowed Catchy to find her feet in the early stages after being bumped heavily at the start, staying towards the grandstand rail as Overshare led towards the rails side. Craig Williams drove Jukebox along to challenge passing halfway as Catchy was stoked up wider out.

Limestone appeared to be tightened and clipped heels to fall inside the final 150m, Catchy ($3.60 fav) doing best of all to defeat Jukebox ($8.50) by three-quarters of a length with Booker ($6.50) a head away third.

Lane walked back to scale with a split lip and went on to ride the next two winners while Limestone appeared unscathed and also walked back to the mounting yard.

Catchy emulated Sepoy in winning the Blue Diamond Stakes at two and the Danehill Stakes at three and co-trainer David Hayes said the granddaughter of Danehill was a strong filly.

"She's done a big job to beat the colts there and done it well," Hayes, who trains Catchy in partnership with son Ben and nephew Tom Dabernig, said.

"From where she drew we just wanted to give her a clear run for the last 600 metres and she proved the strongest horse.

"At the moment I'd say she's favourite to take the boys on again in the $2 million Caulfield Guineas."

Bayliss said Catchy had further improvement in her.

"She's all class, a champion two-year-old and now she's knocked off the colts," Bayliss said.

"She was fitter today and the team have got her here in great shape. When I was able to peel off the back of Summer Passage she let down powerfully and she's still got plenty of improvement in her."

Catchy is now $8 second favourite for the Caulfield Guineas with Sportsbet behind the $3 favourite Royal Symphony
