Starspangled Mare Wins G3 Proud Miss

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 15

It’s been a long time coming, but quality sprinting mare Brooklyn Hustle finally scored a valuable Black Type victory when taking out the Group III Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

A Rosemont Stud homebred that has been very competitive in Group I sprints, the Jason Warren trained four year-old daughter of Starspangledbanner was coming into this off a last start fifth in the Group I SAJC TAB Classic behind Instant Celebrity.

Partnered by Jamie Kah, Brooklyn Hustle produced a career best performance to steam home and win by a length and a half as a well backed favourite.

“We expected her to come here and do this, but you still like to see them get the job done,” said Jason Warren.

Jamie Kah was full of praise for Brooklyn Hustle.

“There is no horse that deserves this more than her,” she said.

“She’s run some amazing races in really good Group I’s. I had my heart in my mouth coming out of the gates as she slipped and lost her back end for a few strides, so she did a massive job to pick up and run on like that.”

With three wins and two placings from 15 starts, Brooklyn Hustle has won over $544,000 and as a Group III winner her worth is assured in the broodmare paddocks at Rosemont Stud.

Brooklyn Hustle is the best of three winners from imported Pivotal mare Joint Aspiration (GB) and is a half-sister to the dam of two Italian stakes-winners Gold Tail and Sopran Ival.

Brooklyn Hustle is the 17th SW for Starspangledbanner.

Joint Aspiration has a yearling filly by Tarzino and was covered by Exceed and Excel last spring after missing the year before to Starspangledbanner.

Brooklyn Hustle is the 17th stakes-winner for Rosemont Stud’s Starspangledbanner, who stands this spring at a fee of $16,500.
