Epsom Next for Comin’ Through

Tara Madgwick - Saturday September 16
Now heading straight into the Group I ATC Epsom Handicap in two weeks time is royally bred Fastnet Rock stallion Comin' Through, a half-brother to $7million earner Criterion.

Retained to race by Sir Owen Glenn and given to Chris Waller to train, Comin' Through won the Group III VRC Carbine Club Stakes last season at three and indicated he was back to his best with a powerful first up win at Randwick last month.

Sent out favourite for the Group III ATC Bill Ritchie Stakes over 1400 metres, Comin' Through raced up on the pace for Michael Walker and repelled all challengers to win by a long head taking his overall record to four wins and three placings from nine starts with prizemoney topping $450,000.

Comin ' ThroughWaller said Comin' Through (images Steve Hart) will have the chance to bolster his stallion potential when he lines up in the Group I Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick in a fortnight.

"I think that type of race will suit him. We took the risk of going four weeks between runs to make sure we kept a little bit of speed in him and most importantly still having him there for the Epsom in two weeks' time with a bit of speed stepping up to the mile," Waller said.

"If he draws a good gate in the Epsom he will be very hard to beat."

Winning jockey Michael Walker wasted to 53kg to fulfil the engagement and will likely have to be at a similar weight on the colt in two weeks' time.

"He is a very good horse, he is the reason I got down to 53kg to make it today," Walker said.

"Hats off to Chris (Waller) he just placed this horse so well he thought he would leave four weeks between runs and that has probably won him the race, bring on the Epsom."

Comin' Through is the eighth foal and eighth winner for the remarkable producer Mica's Price, who has also left the stakes winners Silently and Varenna Miss as well as multiple Group I winner Criterion.

Mica's Pride has a two year-old colt by Fastnet Rock and was covered last spring by Criterion's sire Sebring.

Comin' Through is one of 121 stakes-winners for champion sire Fastnet Rock, who has proven very successful with this female family also producing stakes-winners Upon This Rock, Amah Rock and Bull Point, whose first foals are on the ground this spring for Kingstar Farm.
