One to Watch – Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 13

Champion sire Fastnet Rock has had a very successful season with his two year-olds and posted another eye-catching debut winner at Wyong on Thursday.

The Richard and Michael Freedman trained gelding Park Avenue was easy on the market, but belied the lack of punter’s support to charge home through a narrow gap to score a determined win in the 1100m maiden.

A $220,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Segenhoe draft for his trainers, Park Avenue runs for a syndicate that includes his breeders Segenhoe Stud in whose colours he runs.

Bred by Segenhoe, Park Avenue is the first foal of Group III winner Mywayorthehighway, who comes from the family of multiple Group I winners Assertive Lass, Assertive Lad and Reset.

Park Avenue as a yearling.

Mywayorthehighway as a weanling filly by Fastnet Rock’s champion son Merchant Navy and is in foal to Trapeze Artist.

Park Avenue is the seventh Australian juvenile winner for Fastnet Rock this season, those winners including three stakes-winners – O’President, Acrobat and Sneaky Five.

Fastnet Rock stands at a fee of $165,000 this spring.
