Numerous Pedigree Updates in National Weanling Sale

A select catalogue of 120 for this week’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Weanling Sale at Karaka boasts dozens of high-quality pedigrees, and black-type race results through the five weeks since the catalogue went to print have only added to those strong credentials. 

Rondinella

Lot 47 and Lot 61 are both closely related to Rondinella (NZ) (Ocean Park), who performed admirably on both days of The Championships in Sydney with second placings in the Group One Sydney Cup (3200m) and Group Two Chairman’s Quality (2600m). She is now a three-time placegetter at Group One level and has earned more than A$900,000 in stakes.

Other members of this family include Shezzacatch (NZ) (Savabeel), a recent placegetter in the Group Three Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes (1200m), along with Fonsalette (NZ) (Belardo), who finished fourth in the Group One Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

Lot 50 comes from the same family as Coventina Bay (NZ) (Shamexpress), who charged home for second behind nine-time Group One winner Avantage (Fastnet Rock) in the Group One New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1600m). Earlier in the season, Coventina Bay won the Group Three J Swap Sprint (1400m) and Group Three Cuddle Stakes (1600m).

Lot 74 is a close relative of She’s Ideel (Dundeel), who stepped up to the big time during the Sydney autumn carnival with a second in the Group One Tancred Stakes (2400m), third in the Group Three Epona Stakes (1900m) and fourth in the Sydney Cup.

Lot 84 comes from the same family as the super-talented Mo’unga (NZ) (Savabeel), who scored a scintillating win in the Group One Rosehill Guineas (2000m). Another member of this family is Milford Sound (NZ) (Ocean Park), a recent placegetter in both the Group Two Championship Stakes (2000m) and Group Three Manawatu Classic (2000m).

Lot 14 is out of a sibling to Lady Maroal (NZ) (Power), who picked up her first piece of black type with an impressive performance in last month’s Listed Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Ellerslie.

This is a family stacked with stakes performance – Lady Moroal’s siblings Oracy (NZ) (Zabeel) and The Lady (NZ) (Stravinsky) are both multiple black-type winners, as is their dam Lady Dehere (NZ) (Dehere). Lot 14’s dam Ruthless Lady (NZ) (Keeper) also placed at Listed level.

Both Lot 16 and Lot 76 also come from this high-class family, and Lot 76 had an additional pedigree update as a relative of the Group Three Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) runner-up The Irishman (NZ) (Tavistock).

Lot 114 comes from the same family as speedy three-year-old filly Babylon Berlin (All Too Hard), who won the Group Three Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) at Te Rapa on May 1.

The pedigree page for Lot 71 has received three black-type updates, with Easifar (NZ) (Pride of Dubai) winning the Listed Princess Stakes (1630m), Pleasedtomeetyou (SAF) (Querari) capturing the Listed East Cape Sprint Cup (1200m), and Joyous Legend (Snitzel) placing in the Group Two Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m).

Lot 75 comes from the same family as Savatoxl (Kuroshio), who won the Group Three D C McKay Stakes (1100m) in Adelaide, while close relative Art de Triomphe (NZ) (Vadamos) has won a race and finished fourth in the Listed Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Riccarton, with spring three-year-old fillies’ features now looming large on her horizon.

Lot 77 and Lot 83 have both had recent Group Two updates, with Crystal Bound (Not a Single Doubt) finishing second in the Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) and Ranting (Zoustar) placing in the Tobin Bronze Stakes (1200m) respectively. Lot 83 is also related to last month’s Group Three Manawatu Breeders’ Stakes (2000m) placegetter Platinum Rapper (Makfi).

Lot 93 comes from the same family as standout autumn performer Beauden (NZ) (Bullbars), who has put together back-to-back stakes wins in the Group Two Awapuni Gold Cup (2000m) and Group Three Canterbury Gold Cup (2000m).

Two relatives of both Lot 113 and Lot 117 have placed at stakes level in recent times – Elizabeel (Power) in the Group Three James H B Carr Stakes (1400m), and Feel Glorious (Bated Breath) in the Listed Sand Springs Stakes (1900m).

Supplementary entry Lot 120 comes from the same family as talented French three-year-old Darkness (Siyouni), who placed in the Group Three Prix la Force (1800m) at Longchamp.

The 2021 National Weanling Sale will take place at Karaka on Friday 14 May, with selling commencing at 11am.
