Two from Two for Snitzel Colt Generation

Mark Smith - Saturday May 8

The loss of the Group II Blue Diamond Prelude winner Fontiton after just two foals struck another chord when her Snitzel colt Generation put a small but select field to the sword over 1200m at Caulfield on Saturday.

A dominant winner over 1050m at Morphettville when on debut on April 17, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained colt was under little more than a hand ride by Jamie Kah to defeat the Teofilo (IRE) colt Linas Legend by three and a quarter lengths with the Pierro filly Spinning a half-neck back in third.

A $575,000 purchase by Ciaron Maher Racing/Dermot Farrington Bloodstock from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Generation is the second and final foal of Fontiton.

A daughter of Turffontein, Fontiton was purchased by Matchem Racing for $110,000 from the Blue Gum Farm draft at the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. She returned $435,750 on the track with three wins from six starts. The real windfall came when SF Bloodstock shelled out $1.1million for Fontiton at the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale to become the first $1million lot to be consigned by Sledmere Stud.

Fontiton’s first foal, Pinkham, a daughter of Written Tycoon, was purchased by Mick Price Racing/Suman Hedge Bloodstock for $200,000 out of the Newgate Farm draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Pinkham was made a ‘Breednet One To Watch’ when she won at Seymour last June before placing in the Group III Kevin Hayes Stakes at Caufield at her second start in February.
