Canterbury Winner for Capitalist

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 5

Newgate Farm’s young gun sire Capitalist added another new winner to his tally on Wednesday at Canterbury when talented filly Socialist broke through for the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable.

A close second at her previous start behind highly rated filly Xtremetime (Extreme Choice), Socialist made amends with a stylish length and a quarter win in the 1200m maiden under Jason Collett.

A $130,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Kitchwin Hills draft for Ciaron Maher Racing, Socialist is a half-sister to Group I placed Cornrow and is the sixth winner from six foals to race from stakes-winning Exceed and Excel mare Baby Corn.

Socialist as a yearling

Kitchwin Hills will offer the weanling full brother to Capitalist at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale as Lot 271.

Baby Corn is also in the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale as Lot 1156 and she has been covered by Newgate Farm’s young Group I winning sire Brutal in his first season at stud.

Socialist is the 12th first crop winner for Capitalist – 11 in Australia, one in NZ -, who leads the Australian firs season sires list and the overall 2YO Sires List.

The champion son of Written Tycoon is priced at $99,000 this spring.
