First Hong Kong Winner for Star Turn

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 2

Fresh from siring his first stakes-winner on Saturday in Miss Hipstar, Vinery Stud’s Star Turn posted his first Hong Kong winner on Sunday when Cordyceps Six saluted at Sha Tin bringing a timely pedigree update for his half-sister selling at Inglis HTBA May today.

Trained by Richard Gibson, Cordyceps Six was having his second start in the 1000m griffin plate and forged clear at the finish to win by the best part of a length.

A $140,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Sledmere Stud draft for N Lee, Cordyceps Six was a successful pinhook having been bought for just $25,000 out of the Newgate draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.

Cordyceps Six is the first foal from unraced Hinchinbrook mare Sandcastles, a daughter of stakes-placed June Bug from the family of Group I winner Heat of the Moment.

Vinery Stud will offer the second foal from Sancastles, a filly by Real Impact (Jpn) at Inglis HTBA May as Lot 326.

Cordyceps Six is the ninth first crop winner for Star Turn, who stands at Vinery this spring at a fee of $16,500.
