US G3 Winner for Vancouver

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 2

Talented US bred Vancouver filly Madone was beaten only once last season at two and picked up where she left off when taking out the Group III Senorita Stakes (1m) at Santa Anita on Saturday.

The Simon Callaghan trained filly won her first three starts last year before finishing out of the placings in the Group I Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

She tracked the leaders from an inside draw in her seasonal return and surged clear to win by a length and has now won four of five starts earning over $211,000 in prizemoney.

“We thought she was ready although, you never quite know,” said Simon Callaghan.

“It's just easier to get them ready to run on turf than it is on dirt. So we were confident her fitness level was where it needed to be and Juan gave a perfect ride. She broke well, put herself in a good position, and she had a good turn of foot when it was needed, that was fun.”

A $120,000 OBS March 2YO purchase this year, Madone runs for Kaleem Shah and is the fifth winner for Indian Love Call, a half-sister by Cherokee Run to stakes-winner Allegre from the family of Group I winners Gold Fever and Boisterous.

Vancouver

A Group I winning son of Medaglia D’Oro, Vancouver shuttled briefly to the US and stands this spring at Coolmore Australia at a fee of $22,000.
