Two More Debut Winners for Capitalist

Tara Madgwick - Friday April 30

Newgate Farm’s Golden Slipper winning sire Capitalist added two more promising winners to his tally on Friday with debut victories for King Kapa and Sky Castle.

Trained by Toby and Trent Edmonds, King Kapa was a short priced favourite in the 1100m juvenile event at Grafton and ran out an easy two and a half length winner.

A $50,000 Magic Millions purchase for Sterling Bloodstock from the Newgate Farm draft, King Kapa was bred by Mrs Belinda Bateman and is a half-brother to stakes-placed Churning and is the third winner from stakes-winner Emmalene.

King Kapa as a yearling

Emmalene has yearling and weanling colts to follow by Russian Revolution.

Shortly after King Kapa’s success, Capitalist was back in the winner’s frame at Muswellbrook when the Sterling Alexiou and Gerald Ryan trained filly Sky Castle led all the way to win over 1000m.

Primed with a recent barrier trial win, she was a well backed favourite and despite racing greenly in the straight when she drifted out, Sky Castle proved much the best in winning by a length.

Retained to race by Bert Vieira and his family after passing in shy of her $250,000 reserve when offered at Inglis Easter last year by Widden Stud, Sky Castle is the first foal of Fawcett, a half-sister by Stratum to Mr Vieira’s Champion 3YO Trapeze Artist.

King Kapa and Sky Castle are the 10th and 11th winners from the first crop of Capitalist, who is Australia’s leading two year-old sire and first crop sire.

Capitalist stands this spring at a fee of $99,000.
The champion son of Written Tycoon stands this spring at a fee of $99,000.
