Kingstar Farm secure 2YO speed sensation Time To Reign

The pursuit for precocious speed sires continues for Kingstar Farm who have added further ammunition to their growing stallion roster with the acquisition of top juvenile of his year, Time To Reign.

Time to Reign wins the G2 Silver Slipper

Winner of the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) and Timeform rated 114 during his two-year-old season, Time To Reign raced against and beat the best colts of his generation.

"As we did with Unite And Conquer last year, we've identified a colt with exceptional natural talent and plenty of early speed," said Kingstar Farm's Manager Adam Cook.

Time To Reign is a half-brother to G1 Golden Slipper winning, Champion Two-Year-Old She Will Reign who is now based in Japan where she produced a Heart’s Cry colt before visiting Deep Impact's sire son Satono Diamond. It is proving to be an incredibly desirable family with their dam Courgette recently selling for $2.1 million.

A natural athlete, Time To Reign was unbeaten during his spring campaign, posting a memorable 2.3 length victory on debut over subsequent multiple Group 1 winner Bivouac.

Debuting in the colours of leading syndication company Darby Racing, the son of Time For War was purchased for $325,000 in conjunction with De Burgh Equine and Gary Portelli at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

For Portelli, it was love at first sight, "I loved him the moment I saw him at Yarraman as a yearling. He was just a natural, an athlete. I got on to the She Will Reign owners, pulled a group together again and we added another Silver Slipper to the Golden Slipper we won with his half-sister," said Portelli.

In the autumn, he returned in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100 metres) before stamping his Slipper credentials in the G2 Silver Slipper, defeating popular Golden Slipper favourite Tassort by 2.3 lengths.

Time To Reign concluded his two-year-old season with a fifth placing in the $3.5 million G1 Golden Slipper. He was the second colt home behind Microphone on a heavy 8 track beating star colts Yes Yes Yes, Cosmic Force and Dubious to round off the season with three wins from six starts.

High hopes were held for Time To Reign's three-year-old season following a 6.3 length trial win against Group 1 winners Verry Elleegant, Nakeeta Jane, Unforgotten and Patrick Erin.

Unfortunately, a virus curtailed trainer Gary Portelli's plans for the colt and although he was given several runs, it was evident that he never fully recovered.

"It was such a shame to see him go amiss as a three-year-old as he grew and developed into a magnificent type and had the natural ability to match it with the best of his generation," said Cook.

"We work hard at Kingstar to structure these stallions at an affordable fee to provide a return for breeders, whether with a basic nomination or breeding rights. 

"We've secured one of the best two-year-old's of his year, a Silver Slipper winner with a Golden Slipper pedigree and cannot wait to have breeders come and inspect him at Kingstar. You won't be disappointed."

Joining resident Kingstar Farm stallions Unite And Conquer, Bull Point and Lord Of The Sky, Time To Reign will stand his first season at a fee of $9,900 (inc GST).
