Blueblood Opens his Winning Account at Warwick Farm

Mark Smith - Wednesday April 28

The John Thompson-trained Supremo had a bit to live up to being a half-brother to a VRC Oaks winner out of an AJC Australian Oaks winner.

More often than not, his own worse enemy in his first five starts, the son of Written Tycoon, looks to be more focused since being gelded.

The betting suggested Supremo was primed for a big effort in a 1300m maiden for three-year-olds at Warwick Farm on Wednesday and he didn't disapponit.

At his first start since last December, Supremo was taken straight to the front by Rachel King and kept up a solid gallop to defeat the Nicconi filly Sur La Mer by three lengths with the Mongolian Khan filly Black Queen a further two lengths back in third.

Purchased by his trainer for $260,000 out of the Newgate Farm draft at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Supremo is raced by a large syndicate headed by Wilf Mula’s Aston Bloodstock, who bred the son of Written Tycoon

Supremo is the seventh winner from as many to race out of the 2005 Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks heroine Dizelle (Zabeel).

A sister to dual Hong Kong Horse Of The Year, Vengeance Of Rain and a half-sister to Listed winner Bernicia (Elusive Quality), Zizelle has been just as successful as a broodmare as she was on the track.

The daughter of Zabeel is the dam of the Group 1 VRC Oaks heroine Pinot (Pierro), the Listed Ethereal Stakes winner Dizlago (Encosta de Lago), the multiple Group Group placed Lucky Lago (Encsta de Lago) and the stakes-placed Rock Giselle (Fastnet Rock).

The 20yo Dizelle has a 2yo gelding  by Flying Artie named Bader and a weanling filly by Pierro. She was covered by Pierata last spring.
