One to Watch – Swan Hill

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 15
Debut winners from the powerful Darren Weir stable at this time of year by High Chaparral (IRE) are always worth a much closer look.

Highoffer as a yearlingSpecced at longer odds from $16 into $12, Highoffer settled off the pace for Dean Yendall and when angled into clear running hit the line hard to win the 1200 metre maiden by a long head.

It was a most promising debut for a gelding, whose pedigree would suggest he might be one of the speedier sons of his Epsom Derby winning sire.

A $400,000 Inglis Easter purchase for John Foote Bloodstock from the Newhaven Park draft, Highoffer is the first winner from metro winning Redoute’s Choice mare Offer, a daughter of Group II winner Media.

The family also features Group II winner Timbourina, stakes-winners Valourina and Cardinal Virtue as well as current stakes-winner Tashbeeh.

Sadly for Newhaven Park, Offer died after producing just two foals.
