Sebring 2YO Stakes Quinella

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 25

Widden Stud’s much missed Golden Slipper winning sire Sebring provided the quinella in the Listed VRC ANZAC Day Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Sunday with Three Kings scoring a long head win over Biscayne Bay.

The Tony and Calvin McEvoy trained colt was a dominant last start winner at Ballarat and carried that good form forward into his first Black Type assignment.

Ridden by Luke Currie, Three Kings was tenacious to the line holding off a late charge from the filly Biscayne Bay to take his overall record to two wins and a placing from four starts with prizemoney topping $115,000.

“He trained on well after Ballarat and we came here pretty confident,” said co-trainer Calvin McEvoy.

“He’s really living up to what we think of him and continues to step up in grade.”

The Group III SAJC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) in Adelaide on May 8 is under consideration for Three Kings if he pulls up well or alternatively a spell with an eye towards the spring.

Three Kings was passed in by Widden Stud at Magic Millions shy of his $220,000 reserve and runs for a syndicate that includes Widden Stud and partners including Bill Frost in whose colours he runs.

Runner-up Biscayne Bay was also bred and sold by Widden Stud fetching $410,000 at Magic Millions when bought by Sun Bloodstock.

Three Kings is a full brother to Group III winner Thurlow and is the sixth winner from six to race from stakes-winner Princess Emmy.

Princess Emmy was sold in 2019 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $130,000 to Hollymount Stud and her yearling filly by Sebring for her new owners sold at Magic Millions this year for Kingstar Farm for $270,000 to Ciaron Maher Bloodstock.

Three Kings is the 66th stakes-winner for Sebring, whose last crop of yearlings are being sold this year.
