First Stakes Win for 2018 Inglis Easter Sale-Topper

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 24

A full brother to triple Group I winner Shoals, Fastnet Rock colt Groundswell was in hot demand at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when he topped it making $2.3million and three years on the now four year-old gelding is a stakes-winner.

Groundswell topped the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Groundswell showed great ability earlier in his career finishing third to Super Seth and Alligator Blood in the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas, but a subsequent loss of form saw him gelded.

Groundswell has been quietly working through his grades and went out favourite for the Listed SAJC City of Adelaide Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville on Saturday, leading all the way to win by a length and a quarter under Damian Lane.

Groundswell has won five of 16 starts earning over $515,000 in prizemoney and is one of three winners from The Broken Shore, a winning half-sister by Hussonet (USA) to Group I winners Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain and Platinum Scissors.

He was consigned for sale by Arrowfield Stud at Inglis Easter and knocked down to Anthony Freedman Racing for $2.3million.

The Broken Shore has an unraced two year-old filly by Fastnet Rock called Fjord and was covered last spring by Written Tycoon.

Groundswell is the 172nd stakes-winner for champion sire Fastnet Rock, who went close to siring another Group I winner on Saturday with his blue-blooded colt Hilal finishing second in the Group I ATC Champagne Stakes at Randwick.
