First Winner for Ribchester

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 22

Champion miler Ribchester (IRE) shuttled to Darley Australia for two seasons before being switched to Haunui Farm in New Zealand for his Southern Hemisphere seasons and has posted an impressive first winner.

Trained by Wesley Ward for Stonestreet Stables, two year-old filly Ruthin scored a dominant debut win at Keeneland in a five and a half furlong maiden on turf. She jumped fast and led throughout to win by six lengths.

Bought for 350,000 guineas from the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by bloodstock agent Ben McElroy, Ruthin is the most expensive yearling from the first NH crop of Ribchester.

She is a half-sister to brilliant Group III winning sprinter Hit the Bid and is the fifth winner from stakes-winning Selkirk mare Selinka.
