One to Watch – Bendigo

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 21

The ‘One to Watch’ on Wednesday is a debut winning three year-old by Deep Field named in honour of the bloodstock agent that purchased him.

The Symon Wilde trained gelding McKeever was sent out a hot favourite for the 1100m maiden at Bendigo and coasted clear an easy winner scoring by nearly two lengths.

A $57,500 Magic Millions Perth purchase from the Western Breeders Alliance for McKeever Bloodstock/Wilde Racing, McKeever is the 150th Australian winner for Newgate Farm’s leading young sire Deep Field.

McKeever as a yearling.

McKeever is the first winner for Special Jewel, a metro winning Testa Rossa mare from the family of stakes-winners Noble Cavalier and Real Treasure.

Given the popularity of Deep Field as a sire in Hong Kong, McKeever’s owners may well find themselves with options in the future other than his immediate racing future here in Australia.
