Fifth Winner for Extreme Choice

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 21

The two year-old fillies maiden at Canterbury on Wednesday proved a showcase for first season sires who provided the first four home led by the favourite Xtremetime.

Sporting the Prime Thoroughbreds colours, the John Thompson trained Xtremetime showed talent on debut last December when finishing fifth to Rocket Tiger at Randwick and confirmed that potential with this performance.

The daughter of Extreme Choice made good use of an inside gate to lead for Brenton Avdulla and when challenged late by Capitalist filly Socialist had enough left to win by a whisker on the line.

Also running well for third and fourth were a pair of Maurice (Jpn) fillies in Morioka and Achira.

“She gave me a great feel,” said Brenton Avdulla.

“JT (John Thompson) was very confident. She’s a nice filly and still very raw, so there is plenty of upside to her.”

Xtremetime was a $160,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate draft.

A $160,000 Magic Millions purchase for Prime Thoroughbreds from the Newgate Farm draft, Xtremetime was bred by SF Bloodstock and is a half-sister to Group I placed US based colt Caracaro, who was one of the favourites for last year’s Kentucky Derby before going amiss just before the race.

She is the second winner from placed War Front mare Peace Time (USA), a daughter of Group II Hollywood Oaks winner Santa Catarina.

Newgate Farm sold the yearling filly by Hellbent from Peace Time for $60,000 at Magic Millions to Triple Crown Syndications and she has a More Than Ready (USA) filly to follow.

Xtremetime is the fifth winner for Newgate Farm’s Extreme Choice , who leads the way on the Australian first season sires list by earnings and also the overall 2YO Sires List thanks to his Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside..
