Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday April 20

Barrier trials at Randwick on Tuesday morning featured five heats for juveniles with plenty of interest in a superbly bred Capitalist filly that is yet to taste defeat at the trials.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Satin Ribbons won her only two previous trials in January this year in impressive fashion before heading out for a short break.

She returned this morning with James McDonald in the saddle and blitzed her rivals in her 740m fillies heat.

Satin Ribbons flew the gates and was off and gone eventually coasting clear under a hold to win by five lengths in 42.96 seconds clocking a tick over 33 for her last 600m.

A homebred for Mrs Belinda Bateman, Satin Ribbons is a half-sister to Listed ATC Gimcrack Stakes winner Satin Slipper from Group II winner Satin Shoes, a daughter of Group I winner Star Satire.

The next heat was also won by James McDonald, this time on a Chris Waller trained filly by I Am Invincible.

Bella Rouge was having her first trial and wanted to race a bit fiercely from  a wide gate with McDonald electing to settle the filly before allowing her to surge home down the straight.

Bella Rouge was a $600,000 Magic Millions purchase.

She unwound a good finish to run down the leader and win her heat by a head in  43.66 seconds.

A $600,000 Magic Millions purchase for Waller Racing/Mulcaster Bloodstock/Raffles Racing from the Yarraman Park draft, Bella Rouge is the first foal of Group III placed Starcraft mare Choose, who comes from the family of dual Group I winning sprinter Bawalaksana.

Other 2YO heat winners were: Park Avenue (Fastnet Rock), King High (Not a Single Doubt) and Pizarro (All Too Hard).
