Eagle Farm report to be implemented soon

AAP - Friday July 28

Racing Queensland hopes to begin implementing action recommended in a report into the closure of Eagle Farm racecourse as early as next week.

Eagle Farm, Queensland's main racetrack, has been closed since the May 27 meeting and most of its fixtures transferred to Doomben.

Racing Minister Grace Grace instructed RQ to commission a report into the closure and former Victorian Racing Club chief executive Dale Monteith was asked to compile it.

His report went to RQ on Thursday and was forwarded to Grace on Friday afternoon.

An RQ spokesman said it was understood she would need time to digest the full impact of the report.

"But I can say RQ is keen to get started on implementing the report as soon as possible - hopefully from next week," the spokesman said.

"As soon as the minister is ready to move so will we be."

The spokesman said RQ was unable to comment on what was in the report until after the minister had considered it but it was understood the main point in the report will be on how to replace the current sand base - whether with a new type of sand or with loam.

It is further understood there will be no need to replace the current drainage system.

No matter what the decision racing is unlikely to restart at Eagle Farm until at least February.
