The Star and Arrowfield Join Forces to Conquer Everest

Media Release - Thursday April 15

The Star Entertainment Group and breeding powerhouse Arrowfield have today announced a partnership to run as joint slot holders for The Everest – the world’s richest race on turf - from 2021 to 2024.

In joining forces to create a unique slot combination, The Star and Arrowfield are well-positioned to challenge for their first success in the $15 million classic over the next four years.

“As a founding slot holder of The Everest, The Star is thrilled to extend to 2024 its commitment to a race that has changed the racing landscape,” said Matt Bekier, CEO and Managing Director of The Star Entertainment Group.

“The Everest drew immediate interest from the domestic and international racing community. Just as importantly, it captivated the hearts and minds of the public in next to no time.”

Mr Bekier said The Star held its association with The Everest in high esteem and was thrilled to team up with Arrowfield in a search for victory.

“We’re delighted to have established a long-term partnership with the leading Australian-owned stud,” he said. “Arrowfield has an illustrious 35-year track record of breeding, selling and standing some of the best thoroughbreds in the country.

“We are confident that together, The Star Arrowfield slot will be a winner in the years to come.”

Arrowfield Group Chairman, John Messara said, “We are excited to join The Star in a shared quest to win The Everest. We bring complementary skills to our partnership, the race is an irresistible challenge for both of us, and we look forward to contesting it together.”

The Star Entertainment Group has a long history of supporting the racing fraternity in Sydney through its associations with the Australian Turf Club (ATC) and in Queensland via Magic Millions.

Following a renewed three-year partnership deal in 2020, The Star remains a Foundation Partner and the Official Entertainment Partner of the ATC while extending its commitment to naming rights partner of the prestigious Sydney Autumn Carnival – The Star Championships at Royal Randwick.

The Star’s partnership with the ATC also features three Group 1 races: The Star Doncaster Mile – The Star Championships Day 1; The Star Australian Oaks – The Championships Day 2, Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day and The Star Mile, as part of the spring Everest Carnival.

Mr Bekier added: “We support cultural and sporting events that really matter to this city, and we have invested billions of dollars to create a world-class tourism and entertainment destination here. It highlights our commitment to making Sydney a must-visit location for domestic and international guests.”
