Aussie Breeder Celebrates UK Winner

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 14

Interesting winner at Beverly overnight in the UK with two year-old Brazen Beau colt Boonie making an impressive winning debut for Seymour Bloodstock.

The Kevin Ryan trained colt scored a dominant three and a quarter length win in a competitive juvenile contest over 5f.

Racing Post offered a positive assessment: Boonie overcame an unhelpful draw to pull away nicely in the final furlong, providing Kevin Ryan with his second juvenile winner of the season and looking a useful early 2yo. Described by Kevin Stott afterwards as having "a lovely attitude", he'll win more races and will stay further in time.

Boonie, named for the great Aussie cricketer, is raced by SA businessman Darren Thomas of Seymour Bloodstock and Mark Balnaves, who hold hopes of getting a Royal Ascot runner.

Seymour Bloodstock tasted success there previously with the great sprinting colt Merchant Navy and he is the catalyst behind this latest winner explains bloodstock agent Mark Pilkington.

“Will Johnson assisted me buying two mares in the UK for Seymour Bloodstock with intention to send to Merchant Navy up there a couple of years ago,” said Pilkington.

“One was the Shamardal mare Dice Game, who we paid just £9000 for and she was in foal to Brazen Beau and the result of that mating is Boonie.

“Dice Game has yearling by Starspangledbanner, filly foal by Zoustar amd is getting covered SH time and coming back to Aussie to eventually be covered by Merchant.”
