Mare in Foal to Brutal Tops Inglis Digital

Media Release - Wednesday April 14

A Snitzel mare in foal to exciting first crop sire Brutal has fetched more than two and a half times her reserve, in topping the Inglis Digital April (Early) Online Sale this evening, which grossed $2.56 million.

Iguacu Falls was offered by Peter Franklin’s Cranton Bloodstock and purchased by The Lofty Thoroughbred Group for $167,000.

Iguacu Falls in foal to Brutal sold for $167,000.

The 5YO mare is a full sister to Miss Bosetti, a 3YO with Peter and Paul Snowden that has accepted for the Listed Redelva Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday.

“I wasn’t expecting that!” Peter Franklin said post-sale.

“She had been sitting on $127,000 since Tuesday afternoon but then in the last 10 minutes of the auction bidding took off again, it’s a great result for us.

“Special thanks to Verna Metcalfe at Middlebrook Valley Lodge and Katrina Partridge, the photos of the mare on Inglis Digital were beautiful and showcased Iguacu Falls well.

“I just thought the timing was good, with all the live broodmare sales looming.

“It gets harder later in the year when everyone has bought mares and I’m retaining her first foal, a nice Merchant Navy filly who I am inclined to race but I know Verna is keen to send to Inglis Classic in 2022.

“She has an early service to Brutal, who I believe was a good choice as a stallion, having worked for Hawkes’ for 25 years (as pre-trainer) I know how good he was as a racehorse.

“I hope the new owners receive a quick pedigree update, with Iguacu Falls' sister Miss Bosetti running in the Listed Redelva at Morphettville this weekend,” Franklin said.

Godolphin’s unreserved draft of six 3YO geldings sold for a combined $359,000, with Raoul (Kermadec) topping the Godolphin draft at $145,000, purchased by Sean Driver of Kurrinda Bloodstock with The Kosciuszko in mind.

“We’ve purchased him specifically for that race, as well as TAB Highways and the 2022 Country Championships and he will be trained Cameron Crockett in Scone,” Driver said.

“We inspected Raoul at Inglis Riverside this week and he was the one I wanted in this sale.

“He’s a maiden from five starts but has placed in all of them and a second to Kalashnikov in February looks like good form now having won a Black Opal and running in a Golden Slipper.

“I look at every Inglis Digital catalogue for tried horses and we’ve been active at the yearling sales; we just want to buy quality horses that give us and owners every opportunity.

“I purchased Remorseless (Written Tycoon) from the Inglis Digital October (Early) Sale last year for $85,000 and he won a trial by almost nine lengths at Dubbo in December.

“But he was a bit of a bull so he’s since been gelded also on a path to this year’s Kosciuszko, reports are he is flying so we’re really excited to see how both Remorseless and Raoul progress – and shares in the latter should be available next week.”

Damaged – a winner of six starts by Exceed and Excel – was purchased by Warwick Farm-based trainer Richard Litt for $70,000, while Clint Lundholm paid $65,000 for Amulet Street (Epaulette) and Fernwood Park secured Halic (Golden Horn) for $55,000.

“The demand for tried racehorses through the Inglis Online platform remains insatiable and the sale has again exceeded our expectations,” Godolphin Racing and Bloodstock Manager Jason Walsh said.

“From our perspective integrity and transparency are obviously paramount and the Digital platform gives Godolphin the chance to implement these factors with ease, as well as ensuring buyers can participate in the auction with confidence.

“We wish all the buyers all the very best with the horses and we look forward to following their future and thank you to all bidders for their continued support,” Walsh said.

Other highlights from the category included the Annabel Neasham-consigned Saffiano and Ruddock, which both sold for $70,000 to Gangemi Thoroughbreds (WA) and Kendrick Racing (QLD) respectively.
