North Pacific Wins Admirers

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 4

A day after Brazen Beau sired his first Group I winner in On the Bubbles, Australian broodmare owners in Sydney for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale were offered the opportunity on Sunday afternoon to inspect his imposing son North Pacific, who retires to Newgate Farm this spring.

Black and beautiful like his sire Brazen Beau, the Team Hawkes trained North Pacific was retired after pulling up lame following an out of character unplaced run in the Group I ATC Randwick Guineas.

North Pacific was paraded at Riverside Stables in Sydney on Sunday afternoon.

In his previous seven starts, North Pacific was never further back than fourth and showed his class with a five length win in the Group III ATC Up and Coming stakes and a head second to Ole Kirk in the Group I ATC Golden Rose where he finished in front of Group I winners King’s Legacy and Rothfire.

His race performance only tells part of the story as he was also an $800,000 Inglis Premier Yearling who topped that sale and he remains the second highest priced yearling ever sired by Brazen Beau.

His pedigree adds to the appeal of North Pacific, who is free of Danehill blood being from unraced Up In Lights, who is by champion New Zealand sire O’Reilly from a proven Black type family that has produced this year’s New Zealand Oaks winner Amarelinha, current Group III winner Missybeel and of course four time Group I winner Metal Bender.

North Pacific has size, quality and scope, which he has had from day one according to Brian Nutt, who foaled him down at Attunga Stud, whose brand he carries.

His nickname as a foal was Usain (Bolt), a moniker that proved on the money given his success as a sales yearling, a racehorse and now hopefully as a stallion with his fee set at $22,000 inc GST with lifetime breeding rights available.
