Derby Contender for Vancouver

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 3

He might have won the Golden Slipper, but promising sire Vancouver is set to have a runner in the Group I ATC Australian Derby at Randwick next Saturday after Yaletown scored a bold front running win in the Group II AT Tulloch stakes (2000m) at Rosehill.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Yaletown was stepping up to 2000m at just his fourth start after finishing fourth at his previous outing in the Group II ATC Phar Lap Stakes to Hungry Heart.

Yaletown led all the way for Tim Clark, keeping up a good gallop to the line to win by half a length taking his overall record to two wins from four starts with prizemoney in excess of $150,000.

“He’s a lovely horse that just keeps giving and I think there was still a bit there in the tank at the finish,” said co-trainer Adrian Bott, who indicated the Australian Derby next Saturday will be the goal for Yaletown if he pulls up well.

“Everything he’s done in his career to date gives us the indication he can stay.”

A $320,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Kitchwin Hills draft for T Magnier / Gai Waterhouse Racing / Adrian Bott, Yaletown runs in the Coolmore navy blue for Coolmore and partners.

Bred by Whitby Bloodstock, he is the first winner for multiple Group II placed stakes-winning Darci Brahma mare Marianne, who was bought by Tom Magnier for $1.1million at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Marianne has had no luck in the breeding barn and has not had a live foal since producing Yaletown, although was covered last spring by Justify (USA) and appears to be in foal.

Yaletown is the fourth stakes-winner for Coolmore based Vancouver, who has seven entries for Inglis Easter.
