Dundeel's Entente Claims the Albury Gold Cup

Mark Smith - Friday March 19

Given a positive ride by Sam Clipperton, the strapping Dundeel gelding Entente ran out an easy winner of Friday’s $200,000 Listed Albury Gold Cup (2000m).

The winner of the Group III Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) on a testing track at Randwick in April last year, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained gelding, may have found one of the few dry surfaces in New South Wales at present.

Taking control of the race shortly after turning for home, Entente defeated the Chris Waller-trained The Lord Mayor (Rock 'n' Pop) by two lengths with the $201 shot The Doctor’s Son (Dr Doute’s) a short-head back in third.

Carrying the colours of Peter Dunn’s Dodmark Thoroughbreds, Entente advances his record to five wins, one second, and three thirds from 14 starts with earnings of $535,740.

Entente a $105,000 Inglis premier yearling

Purchased by Shaun Dwyer Thoroughbred Racing for $105,000 at the 2018 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Entente is the second foal and second winner out of the winning Stratum mare Nextess.

Her first foal High 'n' Dry (High Chaparral) broke his maiden at Sandown before placing in the Group III SAJC Chairman's Stakes and Listed Port Adelaide Guineas.

Sadly, Entente is the final foal of Nextress who died in October 2017.
