$340,000 for Osamu Tops Inglis Digital

Media Release - Wednesday March 17

Talented 3YO gelding Osamu has become the most expensive colt or gelding ever sold on Inglis Digital, one of many highlights of the March (Early) Online Sale, which grossed a whopping $4.4 million.

Osamu (Exceed and Excel) was offered by Aquis Farm as part of a 34-strong racehorse reduction and was purchased by his incumbent trainer Annabel Neasham, in conjunction with Brian Maguire, for $340,000.

Neasham – who also purchased the second top lot of the sale Maui Girl (Lope de Vega) for $240,000 – said Osamu was a horse she simply didn’t want to lose from her stable.

“It’s obviously part of Aquis’ policy that the geldings don’t fit their business criteria, so I knew for a few weeks he was going to be offered on Inglis Digital as part of their racehorse reduction,” Neasham said.

“That gave me some time to put together a group of existing clients to purchase him.

“I probably paid a bit more than I thought I’d have to but the market is so unbelievably strong and I’m just delighted to have secured him.”

Neasham has already enjoyed success with a former Aquis galloper in Ruddock, who won first up for new connections at Canterbury last month after being purchased for $47,500 in the November (Early) Online Sale.

“Osamu has got to be one of the best maidens in the country, he’s got good form around some serious Group horses,” Neasham said.

“He works like a superstar at home and while he hasn’t quite been able to deliver on raceday, I thought his first up run was exceptional off one trial and admittedly we maybe went a bit soon with him in the Inglis Sprint.

“So the plan now is to win a Maiden with him to build his confidence and then target the Brisbane Winter Carnival.”

The Aquis Farm racehorse reduction – which included five racehorse shares – grossed more than $1.2 million alone.

Other standout results for Aquis were Vital Verse (Medgalia d’Oro) purchased by Kody Nester Racing for $90,000, while former trainer Jack Pakis secured Palace House (Frankel) for $75,000.

“It’s been a huge sale and we’re elated by the results,” Aquis Farm CEO Shane McGrath said.

“Osamu is one of the best credentialed maidens in Australia currently and a flagship horse for Annabel Neasham Racing so it’s fantastic he’ll continue to race for the stable.

“While racing geldings is not part of the Aquis policy, these horses are sound, well-bred, good types and ready-made racehorses.

“The great thing about trading on Inglis Digital – aside from their ever-growing database of online bidders – is the information available on each horse; from their vet history, race replays, parade videos to disclosures, it’s all there for prospective buyers to see and the five day sale is sufficient time to do further research or get an outside opinion.

“So many Aquis graduates have gone on to successful careers with new owners, like Persan and Ruddock just to name two and the team genuinely wish every buyer all the best with their purchases.”

A total of 17 lots sold for $50,000 or more in the March (Early) Sale, with other highlight results including 4YO mare Specialism (Safeguard) – a Stakes-performing 2YO in WA – bought for $90,000, while Khamsa (Stratum) offered in foal to Deep Field and Stakes-producing Midnight Special (Zabeel) both sold for $80,000.

The momentum of Inglis Digital looks set to continue, with more than 400 races won by Inglis Digital graduates this year alone as well as countless pinhook success stories, bolstering confidence in the online platform.
