Bargain Basement Buy Sweet Dolly Remains Undefeated

Mark Smith - Sunday March 14

Ken and Michelle Walker's decision to knock back a massive offer for their $1,500 filly Sweet Dolly paid off when the daughter of Real Saga kept her record at a perfect four for four in the $500,000  QTIS Aquis Jewel at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

After Sweet Dolly won the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes at Eagle Farm in December, the Walkers received an offer reported to be about $400,000 from Melbourne interests.

Ridden by Justin Stanley, the Kevin Hansen-trained filly was sent off an-odds on favourite in the Aquis Jewel. She came with a well-timed finish to defeat Ahooshu (Better Than Ready) by a half-length with a nose to King Gutho (Better Than Ready) in third.

After kick-starting her career with a near six-length romp at Townsville on November 28, Sweet Dolly advances her record to four wins from as many starts with earnings of $477,750.

Purchased by her owners for a bargain-basement $1,500 from the Raheen Stud draft at the 2019 National Weanling Sale, Sweet Dolly is the best of five winners from six to race out of the winning Canny Lad mare Sweet Cherub a half-sister to stakes-placed Beatniks (Haradasun).

Sweet Cherub does not have a yearling, but she foaled a filly by Heroic Valour on September 3.
