Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 11

There were four heats for juveniles at Randwick on Thursday with all eyes on Blue Diamond winner Artorius, who finished off like an express train at his first try at galloping in the clockwise direction, while a $1million filly also caught the eye later in the morning.

With a brisk pace set in front by Exceed and Excel colt Harley Street, Artorius was allowed to find his feet early by Luke Currie as is his pattern of racing and was a clear two length last coming to the turn.

When urged to go forward after negotiating the corner, Artorius set sail for the post and when the son of Flying Artie hit top gear he was in a class of his own.

He was second at the post beaten a neck by Harley Street, but ran straight through the line and kept going in a performance that will have his Golden Slipper rivals shaking in their boots.

Other juvenile heats were won by Miss Claudia (Not a Single Doubt), Fabulous Choice (Extreme Choice) and expensive blueblood Billiondollarbaby (I Am Invincible).

Billiondollarbaby was a $1million Inglis Easter purchase.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Billiondollarbaby was a $1million Inglis Easter purchase from the Kitchwin Hills draft for Andrew Williams Bloodstock and runs for GPI Racing.

She led all the way to win her 735m heat and is the second foal of dual Group I winner Srikandi, who was bought by Coolmore at the 2019 Chairman’s Sale for $2million.

Coolmore will offer an American Pharoah (USA) yearling filly from Srikandi at Inglis Easter as Lot 98 and she has a colt by Justify (USA) to follow and is back in foal to him again.
