$360,000 Merchant Navy Filly at MM Adelaide

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 9

A super strong 2021 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale produced great results on Tuesday with a filly by Merchant Navy selling for $360,000 to be the third highest priced yearling of the session, her grey colouring tracing back to the family of 1972 Golden Slipper winner John's Hope.

Bred and consigned by Goldin Farms, who also supplied the record breaking $525,000 top lot by Fastnet Rock, the filly from stakes-winning Encosta de Lago mare Bacchanal Woman was bought by Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA)/Murray Thoroughbreds.

Another great result for Goldin Farms, $360,000 Merchant Navy filly from Bacchanal Woman

Craig Rounsefell of Boomer Bloodstock went specifically to this sale to buy the filly for his client Peter Murray.

“My client picked this filly on pedigree quite a while ago, so when she vetted out and we loved the look of her I got on a plane last night and saw her this morning,” Craig Rounsefell told Racing.com.

“She is an absolute queen, the best Merchant Navy I’ve seen this year. AS a type she fits all the things we’re looking for and is a really deep filly with a lot of quality.”

The gorgeous grey is a half-sister to Group III winner Sweet Scandal and stakes-placed Sir Bacchus, a winner of nearly $600,000 in prizemoney, as well as metro winner Bayou, who are the only three foals to race from Bacchanal Woman.

The grey colouring comes straight down her female line as fourth dam Coin of Gold is a full sister to the grey 1972 Golden Slipper winner John’s Hope.

Merchant Navy has 17 entries for the upcoming Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
