Riven Light was one of the 79 first acceptors for the Cox Plate and the William Mullins-trained galloper also holds a Caulfield Cup entry.

Mullins switched Riven Light from hurdling to compete over shorter trips on the flat before the son of Raven's Pass notched wins at Galway and Tipperary in August.

Riven Light started as an 11/8 favourite in the Listed Listowel Stakes (1m 1f) before holding off the late challenge of the Dermot Weld-trained Zawraq to score by three-quarters of a length.

"It was a great spare ride to get, he's a smart horse," Riven Light's jockey Kevin Manning told At The Races. "As soon as I came off the bend, he was gone.

"He was doing nothing in front, but I think he's a very smart horse.

"Willie is a pleasure to ride for and as soon as I moved on him, it was all over."

Sportsbet kept Riven Light as a $201 outsider in its Cox Plate market despite the six-year-old's win while the same corporate has River Light at $61 for the Caulfield Cup.
