Flashy Zoustar Colt Wins G2 Sires Produce

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 6

Flashy Zoustar colt Lightsaber has been impressive at the midweek meetings in Melbourne at his past two runs and took the quantum leap into Black Type company at Flemington on Saturday when scoring a dominant win in the Group II VRC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m).

Prepared by Peter Moody and ridden by Like Nolen, Lightsaber went forward to lead and controlled the race throughout to win by a length and a half.

"He's got an unbelievable constitution and is a real racehorse," Moody said.

"He just does enough at home to keep you happy without excelling. He just brings it to the races and puts it on the stage."

A decision on whether Lightsaber presses on to Sydney or heads to the paddock is yet to be made.

"He's had his fourth run in his first prep, but we saw all the superstars get beaten in Sydney earlier today and the Melbourne two-year-old form stood up," Moody said.

"We won't run and hide, will we, but we'll take him home and see how he pulls up.

"He's done a damn good job for the preparation if this is the end of it, but he's showing me no signs of that yet.

"We'll see what happens."

Lightsaber is the 20th SW for Zoustar.

Lightsaber has already returned over $230,000 in prizemoney from his first four starts with three wins and a second making him a cheap purchase at $100,000 for Blueblood Thoroughbreds, who secured him at the 2020 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale last October.

The son of Zoustar had been pinhooked by JCS Racing for $80,000 out of the Aquis Farm draft at the 2020 Classic Yearling Sale

Bred by Emirates Park, Lightsaber is the second foal and first to race out of the unraced Dream Ahead (USA) mare Dream Cirque.

A half-sister to stakes-placed winner Distant Rock, Dream Cirque is a granddaughter of Fastnet Rock’s sister Cirque du Soleil.

Dream Cirque was covered last spring by Tassort and has a yearling colt by Pariah and a colt foal by Capitalist.

Lightsaber is the 20th stakes-winner for Zoustar and was his second new juvenile Black Type winner of the day joining Glistening, who won the Group II  ATC Reisling Stakes in Sydney.
