Winning Debut for $1million Redoute’s Choice Colt

Tara Madgwick - Friday March 5

The Hermitage Thoroughbreds colours enjoyed phenomenal success when carried by glamour Redoute’s Choice colt The Autumn Sun and while Green Flash has a way to go to live up to that standard, the expensive son of Redoute’s Choice did make a winning debut at Newcastle on Friday.

Green Flash as a yearling

Purchased by Hermitage Thoroughbreds / Waller Racing from the Arrowfield draft at 2019 Inglis Easter for $1million, Green Flash has been given time to mature and was sent out favourite for the 1200m maiden.

Green from the gates for James McDonald, Green Flash took a while to settle into his galloping rhythm, but he unwound a good finish in the straight to surge home and win by a length over Luminoso with more than six length back to the field.

Green Flash is a three-quarter brother to stakes-winner Diplomatico and half-brother to Group III winner Havana being the fifth winner from five foals to race from good producing Anabaa (USA) mare Top Cuban.

Top Cuban has a yearling filly by Pariah, a filly foal by The Autumn Sun and was covered by him again last spring.
