Canadian Spice Breaks the Ice

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 2

Golden Slipper winner Vancouver posted his 25th Australian winner this season when talented filly Canadian Spice finally broke the ice at Kembla on Tuesday.

Stakes-placed at two, the Chris Waller trained filly has been her own worst enemy at times, but under a clever ride from Hugh Bowman was able to score a long head win in the 1200m maiden.

With four minor placings in addition to today’s win, Canadian Spice has won over $100,000 in prizemoney and may take confidence from her victory to go on and win mor races.

A $600,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Coolmore draft for Woppitt Bloodstock / Hermitage Thoroughbreds, Canadian Spice was foaled and raised at Coolmore and is the fourth winner from five foals to race from stakes-winning General Nediym mare Paprika.

Canadian Spice as a yearling.

Paprika has no yearling for the sales this year but produced a full sister to Canadian Spice last spring and is now in foal to Pride of Dubai.

Vancouver had yearlings sell for up to $160,000 at Inglis Premier this week, his best result a filly from Socialize (NZ) that was offered by Balius Farm and bought by Moloney Racing.
