One to Watch -Bendigo

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 2

The most expensive yearling by Dundeel sold at Inglis Premier this week was a $550,000 colt from Ruby Falls secured by John O’Shea Racing/ Suman Hedge Bloodstock and his half-sister broke the ice in good style at Bendigo on Tuesday.

Having her first run for new trainer Clayton Douglas after three modest runs ( a second and two fifths) for the Lindsay Park team that saw the Fastnet Rock filly entered in the Inglis Digital October Online Sale last year, Screwdriver quickly set about repaying her $37,500 purchase price for Bradlee Park.

Sent out favourite with Jamie Kah in the saddle, Screwdriver produced a sustained run to snatch a head win in the 1400m maiden.

Clayton

Douglas has made a few gear changes and adopted a different approach to her work with Screwdriver, who is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group I winner Irish Lights, obviously taking improvement from her new routine

Originally a $160,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft for Lindsay Park/ Andrew Williams Bloodstock, Screwdriver is the second winner from two to race from Ruby Falls, an unraced three-quarter sister by Flying Spur to Group I winner Irish Lights, the dam of Group II winner Omei Sword and Irish stakes-winner Lipizzaner.

Screwdriver was a $160,000 Inglis Easter yearling and then a $37,500 Inglis Digital purchase last October.

The family also featured in the Juvenile Trial Watch story on Monday about a filly called Tattooist (2f American Pharoah x Aspen Falls), read about it here.

Given the potential for pedigree upside and further racetrack success, Screwdriver is looking like a very nice investment for the Bradlee Park team of Clayton Douglas and Jamie Kah!
