$460,000 Toronado Colt Ends Premier Book 1 On a High

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 2

The last sixty lots of Inglis Premier Book 1 Yearling Sale were sold this morning with a colt by leading Victorian sire Toronado (IRE) topping the session when snapped up by Paul Moroney Bloodstock, who knows a thing or two about the sire having purchased his Flemington stakes-winner Shelby Cobra from Premier in 2019 for $130,000.

This time Moroney had to go a little higher given the rising stocks of Toronado, securing Lot 584, a colt from Dom Perion for $460,000.

Consigned by Stonehouse Thoroughbreds, the flashy bay with the four white feet is a half-brother to Group I VRC Victoria Derby winner Extra Brut and smart metro winner Fill the Flute.

Swettenham Stud’s Toronado has had 13 yearlings sell in Premier Book 1 for an average $146,923.

The champion son of High Chaparral has become the most popular sire in Victoria and covered 210 mares in 2020, his biggest ever book of mares.

The Showcase Session of Premier continues.
