$550,000 Deep Field Colt Headed for Hong Kong

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 1

Deep Field has achieved some impressive results in Hong Kong so it was no real surprise when the Hong Kong Jockey Club swooped on one of his best colts at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale on Monday.

$550,000 Deep Field colt from Bousquet was bred and sold by Tasmanian based Grenville Stud.

Consigned by Tasmanian based Grenville Stud, the colt from Bousquet was selected by astute bloodstock agent Craig Rounsefell and satisfied all the strict criteria set down by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, so was duly purchased for $550,000.

A big robust chestnut, he is the third foal of Bousquet, a winning More Than Ready (USA) daughter of Group II winner Downhill Racer.

Bousquet was bought by Grenville Stud for $40,000 from the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft at the 2019 Inglis Broodmare Sale when carrying the Deep Field colt.

She lost a foal by Grenville Stud’s young sire Stratosphere last year and is now back in foal to him.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club have bought four colts so far at this sale for a total $1,370,000, two by Tavistock, one by Magnus and the most expensive being the Deep Field.

Newgate Farm's Deep Field is enjoying great results at Inglis Premier with 12 yearlings averaging $219,167 in the first two sessions.
