$440,000 Deep Field Filly a Pinhook Winner

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 28

Silverdale Farm had a great result on Sunday at Inglis Premier when they sold a stunning Deep Field filly from Iceland Turf Belle that they had pinhooked from the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale last year.

$440,000 Deep Field filly from Iceland Turf Belle was a pinhook winner!

Suman Hedge Bloodstock / Grant Bloodstock paid $100,000 for the filly as a weanling and she attracted spirited bidding on Sunday when fetching $440,000 to the bid of Bahen Bloodstock Ltd / Matt Laurie Racing.

Matt Laurie trains classy three year-old colt Portland Sky, who became the first Group I winner for his sire Deep Field when dead heating in the recent Group I MRC Oakleigh Plate, so has a great affinity for the breed.

Bred by Ian Smith’s Edinburgh Park, the filly is the first foal of Iceland Turf Belle, a half-sister by Duporth to stakes-winner Vinland from the family of Aussie bred South African Group II winner Mella Maria, who is now back at stud in Australia.

“We bought her for $100,000 and she was a beautiful filly that was well presented by Ian Smith, but she’s just continued to develop in the time she’s been at Silverdale,” said Rob Petith.

“We bought her down here thinking she would stand out as being one of the quality lots in the sale.”

Iceland Turf Belle was covered again by Deep Field last year so will produce a full sibling to the $440,000 filly this spring.
