Australia Cup Next for Epaulette's Daughter Paradee

Mark Smith - Saturday February 20

The well-travelled Paradee has been on the go since last October, but she is the form of her life, coming back from a successful jaunt on the Gold Coast to land the Group II Carlton Draught Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Coming off a win in the $250,000 Magic Millions Open Quality (1800m) on January 16, the 4yo daughter of Epaulette travelled on the speed before taking the lead shortly after turning for home.

With less than a length and half covering the first seven across the line, Paradee defeated Shared Ambition (IRE) (Born To Sea) by three-quarters of a length with a short-half-head back to Homesman (USA) (War Front) in third.

Ridden by John Allen for trainer Danny O’Brien, Paradee advances her record to six wins, two seconds and two from thirds from 15 starts with earnings of $873,896.

Stable representative Ben Gleeson said the daughter of Epaulette had not missed a beat.

“She’s had a wonderful preparation,” he said.

To go up to Queensland and win two races on the bounce and then come back here after a big prep all the way through the spring and to come here. I don’t think she’s missed a place the whole prep, so it’s a fantastic result for Robert Anderson. He’s a fantastic client of ours and deserves this.

“She went down to Barwon Heads (after Queensland) and had a gallop down there a week-and-a-half ago and just jumped out of the ground. We thought she’s going as well as ever, if not improved more and that shows by winning a good race and beating some decent horses.

The Australian Cup is a race that’s profiling OK her. If she bounces out of this run, as she has for the past couple of months, there is no reason why we shouldn’t go there.”

Bred by Bert Vieira, Paradee was purchased by her owner Ron Anderson for $240,000 out of the Bowness Stud draft at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Paradee a $240,000 Magic Millions yearling

She is the first live foal of the unraced Medaglia d’Oro (USA) mare Icy Heels who is a half-sister to the Breeders’ Plate winner Law.

Vieira had purchased Icy Heels for $130,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Icy Heels has an unraced 2yo filly by Winning Rupert named Lawbreaker and a yearling colt by Pride Of Dubai.

Sadly, Icy Heels died last September when in foal to Trapeze Artist.
