Written Tycoon's Rich Hips Claims the Mannerism Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday February 20

Making her first start since winning the Group III VRC Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in November, the four-year-old Written Tycoon mare Rich Hips took up where she left off in Saturday’s Group III Premier Signs Mannerism Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Ridden by Michael Dee for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Rich Hips finished determinedly to defeat the 6yo Redoute’s Choice mare Perfect Jewel by a half-length with a length further back to the 4yo Puissance de Lune (IRL) mare Lunakorn in third.

With her second Group III success, Rich Hips advances her record to six wins, a second and a third from 15 starts with earnings of  $403,940.

“She’s got terrific fresh up form, that’s two from three now,” Young said.

“We trialled her a couple of times a week apart just so she could have two weeks going into today so it would take the edge off her and it worked out perfectly.

“Mick Dee put her in the best spot. He really gels with her. It’s great to see.

“She might have a Group 1 there for sure also. It might be quite nice to chase a Coolmore or the Matron Stakes in a couple of weeks time.

“It’s fantastic for First Light racing, they’re brilliant at what they do and great to get involved with and the whole of Caulfield could hear them yelling and screaming just now.”
