Dissident Filly Wins G2 Angus Armanasco Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 20

Dissident filly Yes Baby Yes failed to fire a shot in two unplaced starts in Queensland over the summer, but quickly found her best form at Caulfield on Saturday to score a thrilling last stride win in the Group II MRC Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m).

Trained by Leon and Troy Corstens, Yes Baby Yes showed her class last spring when winning the Group II MVRC Lexus Fillies Stakes and added another valuable Black Type win to her resume with this latest success.

Perfectly ridden by Jamie Kah, she fought hard to the line to hold off a late dive from runner-up Malicorne, whose rider Daniel Stackhouse lodged an unsuccessful protest against the winner.

She had to do a bit of work early which cost her late as she probably should have won by about a length,” said Troy Corstens.

“Nothing went right for her in Queensland and she just hated going that way, but when we got her back here and trialled her we knew we had her back to her best.

“We bought her from a fantastic farm in Sledmere. Royston and Treen do an amazing job with their horses.”

Consigned by Sledmere Stud to the Magic Millions, Yes Baby Yes was purchased by Flemington Bloodstock/Malua Racing for $120,000 and Sledmere have retained an interest in the filly, who they also bred.

She has the overall record of three wins from 12 starts with prizemoney in excess of $388,0000.

Yes Baby Yes is the best of three winners from as many to race out of the Exceed And Excel mare Exabelle, whose dam Avabelle is a half-sister to the Group I winner Gaze.

The yearling half-sister by Spieth to Yes Baby Yes.

Exabelle has a yearling filly by Spieth that will be offered by Sledmere at Inglis Premier as Lot 23, a filly foal by Dissident and was covered last spring by Everest winner Yes Yes Yes.

Yes Baby Yes is the best performer so far for Newgate Farm’s Australian Horse of the Year Dissident.
