Expensive More Joyous Filly Makes Sparkling Debut

Mark Smith - Sunday February 14

The eight-time Group 1 winner More Joyous looks to have a likely type in the Snitzel filly Joyous Legend who made a winning career debut over 1000m at Gosford on Saturday.

Trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, Joyous Legend revelled in the heavy conditions to defeat Godolphin’s Exceed And Excel filly In Flander by two and a half lengths with the Dream Ahead (USA) filly Russbuss a half-neck back in third.

Carrying the colours of Bon Ho, Joyous Legend was an $800,000 purchase by Legend Racing out of the Strawberry Hill draft at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

She is the fourth winner from as many foals of the $4.5 million earner More Joyous (More Than Ready).

The only foal of More Joyous to see a sales ring to date, Joyous Legend is an $800,000 Easter purchase

Her first foal, the Frankel filly Woman, had her first foal last spring. It is also by Snitzal.

Woman missed last year to her cover by Fastnet Rock.

It was the same story for More Joyous despite being covered by Exceed And Excel and Written Tycoon.

There is no yearling out of More Joyous this season however the champion has a Frankel filly at foot.
