Adelaide Cup an Option for Starcaster

Mark Smith - Friday February 12

The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained import Starcaster (GB) made it two consecutive wins over the 2500m at Moonee Valley in Friday nights Listed Torney Night Cup.

Given a positive ride by Jamie Kah, Starcaster (GB) travelled sweetly on the outside of the pacesetting Vadiyann (FRA).

The only horse on the bridle coming around the home turn, the 6yo son of Dansili was untroubled to defeat Stars Of Carrum (Fiorente) by two lengths with Vadiyann (FR) (Footstepsinthesand) hanging on for third.

A 60,000gns purchase at the 2016 tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Starcaster (GB) won a maiden at Chepstow in nine starts for Hughie Morrison.

Sent to the 2018 Autumn Horses In Training Sale, Starcaster was purchased for 35,000gns by Jedd O'Keeffe. He had two starts for that trainer, winning the second at York before boarding a plane to Australia.

Quite often he has been his own worst enemy by over-racing..

“He was amazing tonight. He trotted to the gates like an old pony, he was so quiet,” Kah said.

“It’s a credit to the team and strappers who have got him in such good head space. He was an angel tonight."

Stable representative Steve Adams said the Adelaide Cup comes under consideration.

“He’s gone from a 70 (rater) to Listed tonight so the Adelaide Cup is an option in three weeks. There is also the Roy Higgins (Stakes) as well, so he has a couple of options,” Adams said.

Bred by Meon Valley Stud, Starcaster has plenty of strength on his dams side. While Shirocco Star (Shirocco) won just once,  she was runner-up in the Epsom Oaks and Irish Oaks.

Starcaster becomes the 147th stakes-winner for Juddmonte Farms pensioned Danehill stallion Dansili.
